Lounge design with MariaMaria was so helpful and spent the time to fully understand our brief and bring our ideas to life. She carefully worked through each element in the room and the end design was really lovely. Maria was so responsive throughout the project and we can't wait to see the end product. Attentive designers with a great serviceMyBespokeRoom helped me with a new space that is under construction. The area is quite small but I had a clear idea of how I wanted it to feel. I was worried that if I tried to DIY it, I would end up feeling disappointed, because I didn't really know how to achieve what I wanted. So, I signed up for the service thinking that it would be an investment into making sure I got it right first time.My designer Kerry was able to look at my inspiration images and picked out exactly what I was going for. During the process she also produced visuals of the room to help with the decision making. We ended up with a design that really matches the internal vision that I had (and even I didn't know what it was at the start). Kerry also helped with some of the details to tie the new area into other rooms. I'm delighted with the service.I was able to request to use a number of furniture pieces that I already have, which was great. I also used the shopping service to pick up a few other items, which have arrived already.I'm looking forward to putting everything together in the next few weeks.Date of experience: 09 June 2025

Book now don't hesitate!Olivia is a joy to work with. This is my second project with Mybespokeroom and I reached out to Olivia to secure her time. All meetings were arranged promptly with all material shared post meetings the same day. Olivia was very considerate of my budget and ensured she gave me options to suit it. This is our second renovation project and it went brilliantly under Olivia guidance. There were some major design decisions that with Olivia's experience and practical insight have increased the amount of useable space we have as a family of 6. Date of experience: 07 June 2025

1. Wallpaper up the stairs

Let’s be honest: the wall alongside the staircase is often left… acceptably dull. It’s treated as a thoroughfare rather than a design opportunity — but it deserves better.

Applying wallpaper to this angled wall can completely elevate the staircase, guiding the eye upwards and adding character to what’s usually a forgotten space. Got a low ceiling above the stairs? Wrapping it in wallpaper too can create a cocooning effect that’s unexpected and full of charm.

2. Inside furniture

Have a leftover roll of wallpaper gathering dust? Here’s your moment.

You can use it to transform the backs of bookcases, the sides of drawers, or inside cabinets. You know, if you’re looking for a fun little surprise every time you open the door. It’s a stylish way to give your furniture a second life, and your space a bespoke twist.

3. Artwork over wallpaper

Layering gallery wall over wallpaper

At some point, it became an unwritten rule that you shouldn’t hang art on wallpaper. But honestly? We’re not sure who made that one up, and we’re politely ignoring it!

In fact, layering artwork over patterned wallpaper can look incredibly stylish. It adds depth, tells a story, and makes your walls feel curated rather than covered. It’s a bold move, yes, but done right, it feels like something straight out of a design magazine! Filling your space with personality.

To start experimenting with this, we suggest a more geometric or neutral wallpaper to layer with. Feeling more eclectic? You can go whole hog by layering bold pieces over bold, floral or illustrative paper.

4. Wallpaper the ceiling

Look up – that ceiling’s not doing much, is it?

Wallpapering the “fifth wall” is an unexpected way to bring drama, depth, and personality to a space. This wallpaper idea is a budget friendly way to really add the wow-factor without going too bold! Especially if the rest of the room is kept a little pared-back.

If you’re ready to go a step further, take your wallpaper from the walls right up onto the ceiling. This wraparound look creates a cosy, enveloping feel that’s perfect for smaller spaces like cloakrooms, kids rooms or snugs.

It works especially well with softer prints, think minimalist floral, tonal botanical, or linen textures. Adding interest without feeling overpowering.

5. Three-quarter walls

The three-quarter trend isn’t just for paint, it works just as beautifully with wallpaper too.

Stopping your wallpaper just below the ceiling (or up to a picture rail if you have one) gives the space a refined, editorial edge. It also lets you play with contrast, pair a bold wallpaper with a crisp coloured upper wall for an instantly elevated feel.

6. Going bold in small spaces

If you’ve been itching to go big with a wild pattern, the cloakroom is your dream space. It’s self-contained, low-risk, and pretty much built for bold design. Think of it as your home’s hidden gem, the more unexpected the wallpaper, the better!

And don’t worry, you don’t have to sacrifice practicality for style. Wallpapering above tiles is a smart way to add personality while keeping the splash zone wipeable.

Want an elevated look? Choose a wallpaper that picks up on some of the tones in your tiles. For a scheme that feels effortlessly pulled together.

7.  Wallpaper above panneling

My Bespoke Room and wall panneling are best friends. Use panneling on the lower half to ground the space, and let the wallpaper shine above. It’s a lovely mix of classic and contemporary, to create a timelessly bold space.

This budget friendly wallpaper idea works especially well in bedrooms, where it helps break up the wall and creates a soft, cocooning effect around the bed. It’s a clever way to bring in colour or pattern without overpowering the room. Just enough to make things feel calm but considered.

8. Make a hallway statement

Hallways often get stuck with leftover paint and forgotten furniture. But with just a few strips of wallpaper, you can turn that transitional space into a feature in its own right.

A statement wall in the hallway will have your guests’ jaws dropping before they’ve even stepped foot into the rest of your home.

9. Wallpapering alcoves

Got fireplace alcoves, a reading nook, or recessed wall? These little pockets of space are perfect for wallpaper. Adding pattern or texture to an alcove creates instant depth and helps define the area, especially if it’s used for display or storage.

It’s a subtle detail that brings personality to a room without demanding centre stage.

10. Wallpapering a chimney breast

Or why not flip that past wallpaper idea and make the chimney breast a feature instead?

If your space has a chimney breast, it’s practically asking to be highlighted. Applying wallpaper just to that section adds instant visual structure to the room and gives you a natural focal point.

This works beautifully with fireplaces (real or decorative), and helps anchor your furniture layout. Keep it classic with a stripe or go contemporary with a botanical or abstract pattern, just one roll can make a big impact!

11. Add texture with wallpaper

Limewash effect wallpaper idea

Love the look of limewashed walls or plaster effect finishes, but not the price (or the plaster dust)? Textured-effect wallpaper gives you that artisanal feel without the hassle.

These wallpapers are designed to mimic the look of tactile finishes like plaster, fabric, stone or even wood grain, and they do a fantastic job of adding softness and interest to a space. Ideal for creating that “elevated neutral” look in living rooms, bedrooms or home offices.

12. Feature wall murals

The statement wall is a classic for a reason. Large-scale mural-style wallpaper is a powerful way to set the tone of a room, whether that’s calming, dramatic, playful or elegant.

Think tropical foliage in a dining room, a moody abstract in a snug, or soft watercolour florals behind a bed. The key is to let the mural be the star and keep the rest of the room relatively pared-back so it doesn’t compete.

It’s also a brilliant way to add imagination and creativity to a child’s room. From enchanted forests to outer space scenes, murals can make their room feel like their own little world.
