Takes the stress out of decorating your home! Working with Liv on the design of our home has been an absolute pleasure from start to finish. Liv designed our entire house remotely, and what impressed me most was her ability to understand exactly what we were trying to achieve. Despite never being in the house in person, she quickly grasped our style, how we wanted the spaces to function, and most importantly, how we wanted our home to feel. She brought ideas and expertise that elevated the design far beyond what we could have achieved ourselves. Communication throughout the project was excellent. Liv was always responsive, organised and clear, making what could have felt like an overwhelming process both enjoyable and straightforward. We always felt informed, involved and supported in the decisions we were making. One of Liv’s greatest strengths is her ability to create a cohesive vision across an entire home. Each room has its own character, but everything works beautifully together and feels connected. The finished result feels thoughtful, balanced and completely in keeping with the way we live as a family. What I particularly appreciated was how collaborative the process felt. Liv was incredibly open to feedback and genuinely listened to our thoughts and ideas. She never made us feel like we had to choose between her vision and our own preferences; instead, she worked with us to refine and evolve the designs until we reached a result that we absolutely loved. The end result is a home that feels both beautiful and completely “us”. We are genuinely delighted with every room and couldn’t be happier with how everything has come together. I would wholeheartedly recommend Liv to anyone looking for a talented, creative and highly professional designer. She has been phenomenal to work with, and we’re incredibly grateful for everything she has done to help turn our house into a home we love!

Very happy returning customer! We have used My Bespoke Room for at least eight designs and, every time, the service has been tremendous - from the designers through to the customer success and shopping teams. They really make the whole experience feel personal. Jelena was incredible. We gave her two very different rooms and design directions, and she absolutely nailed both of them down to the last detail. The packages MBR offer make what feels like a luxury design experience completely affordable and so, so worthwhile.

Best Sofas 2026: Our Interior Designers’ Ultimate Buying Guide

Best sofas 2026: the winners at a glance

A sofa is one of the hardest-working pieces of furniture in your home. It has to look good, feel comfortable, fit the room, suit the way you live and justify a sizeable chunk of your furnishing budget.

At My Bespoke Room, our professional interior designers recommend sofas for real homes every day. For the 2026 My Bespoke Room Sofa Awards, we assessed a shortlist of sofas across five categories, scoring every entry against five category-specific criteria. Each criterion was rated from 1 to 5, giving a maximum score of 25.

The result is not simply a list of sofas we like. It is a scoring comparison covering the best sofa overall, best value sofa, most comfortable sofa, best sofa for small spaces and best family sofa – with the runners-up included so you can compare the strongest alternatives.

How we chose the best sofas for 2026

2 = Fair;

1 = Poor.

How it scored

Judging criterionScore
Style & Design4/5
Comfort5/5

Practicality5/5
Value & Longevity5/5
Total24/25

Why it won

The Izzy earned our Sofa of the Year award with 24/25 because it strikes a rare balance between timeless design, everyday practicality and genuine flexibility. Its clean, elegant shape feels considered without being overly formal, while the choice of sizes and configurations makes it adaptable to everything from modern apartments to busy family homes.

That versatility is a big part of why our designers return to it so often. The Izzy can be specified in beautifully textured finishes or more durable smart fabrics designed for the realities of family life, pets and everyday spills. It feels sophisticated and comfortable, but never too precious to actually live with.

What our designers noticed

Our designers particularly liked how easily the Izzy can change character depending on the room. In a hard-wearing smart fabric it becomes a relaxed family sofa; in velvet it can feel far more refined; and in a timeless neutral it works as a calm centrepiece that will sit comfortably with changing styles around it.

Choice & Options3/5
Longevity4/5
Total20/25

Why it won

The Otto won our Best Value Sofa award with 20/25 because it delivers the look and feel of a much more expensive design without the premium price tag. Its soft pillowed-edge detailing adds character and gives the sofa a more elevated, designer-led finish than our team expected at this price point.

Crucially, the value is not only visual. The designers felt the carefully balanced foam and fibre fillings gave it a comfortable, supportive sit, while its generous three-seater proportions provide plenty of room to stretch out without overwhelming the space. It is a strong example of design, quality and everyday comfort coming together at an accessible price.

What our designers noticed

What stood out most was how easily the Otto can slot into different schemes. Its timeless shape and generous proportions give you a strong foundation for the room, whether the styling is more polished and boutique-inspired or softer and relaxed for family living.

“What makes the Otto such great value is that it does not look or feel like a compromise. It gives you a considered, versatile sofa while leaving more of the budget for the rest of the room.” — My Bespoke Room design team

What we love

  • 20/25 overall, including 5/5 for value for money
  • Designer-led pillowed-edge detailing gives it a more premium look
  • Generous three-seater proportions without feeling overly bulky
  • Timeless shape makes it easy to adapt as your room and style evolve

Things to consider

Choice and options scored 3/5, so it may not suit anyone looking for highly bespoke sizing or configuration.

How it scored

Judging criterionScore
Seat Comfort4/5
Back Support4/5
Cushion Quality5/5
Relaxation5/5
Lounging Experience5/5
Total23/25

Why it won

The Slow Riser won our Most Comfortable Sofa award with 23/25 because it delivers the balance of support and softness that makes you want to sink in and stay there. Its relaxed silhouette is kept feeling contemporary by sharper lines, while the generous, pillowy cushions make the whole sofa feel instantly inviting.

The scoring backs that up: it achieved 5/5 for cushion quality, relaxation and lounging experience. For our designers, though, the clever cushion construction was what really set it apart. Feather-wrapped foam and built-in air-pocket technology give you the softness of a feather-filled sofa while helping the cushions bounce back into shape with less constant plumping.

What our designers noticed

Our designers also liked that the Slow Riser does not have to be styled as a stereotypically slouchy sofa. With a wide choice of fabrics and colours, it can work as a cosy family retreat or a bolder contemporary statement, while still putting comfort first.

Designer lying on the yellow Loaf Slowriser sofa reading a book and being very relaxed.

“It is the perfect combination of effortless style, everyday practicality and low-maintenance loafing — the kind of sofa you genuinely look forward to coming home to.” — My Bespoke Room design team

What we love

  • 23/25 overall, with 5/5 for cushion quality, relaxation and lounging experience
  • Generous, pillowy cushions create a properly relaxed sit
  • Bounce-back cushion design gives feather-like comfort with less day-to-day plumping
  • Wide fabric and colour choice means the relaxed shape can suit very different interiors

Things to consider

Its generous depth needs enough floor space and may be less suited to very compact rooms.

Shorter sitters may prefer an extra cushion behind the back for a more upright sit.

  • Design: compact, clean-lined shape with raised solid-wood legs

How it scored

Judging criterionScore
Footprint Efficiency4/5
Usable Seating5/5
Proportions5/5
Access & Delivery5/5
Comfort4/5
Total23/25

Why it won

The Swyft Model 01 won our Best Sofa for Small Spaces award with 23/25 because it proves limited space does not have to mean compromising on comfort or style. Its streamlined shape and elegant solid-wood legs create a lighter, more open feel, helping compact rooms feel less crowded while still providing generous usable seating.

It scored 5/5 for usable seating, proportions and access & delivery, and the details explain why. The boxy arms are a comfortable height without adding unnecessary bulk, while the high-density foam cushions give a supportive sit. Tool-free assembly is another major advantage for apartments, loft conversions and homes with awkward access.

What our designers noticed

Our designers particularly liked how versatile the clean, timeless shape is. It can be dressed up with stronger colour and statement accessories or kept calm and minimal with soft neutrals, so choosing a more compact sofa does not restrict the overall design direction of the room.

“This is proof that compact living does not have to mean compromising. It makes excellent use of every inch, is easy to get into awkward homes and still gives you a sofa you can genuinely build a room around.” — My Bespoke Room design team

What we love

  • 23/25 overall, with 5/5 for usable seating, proportions and access & delivery
  • Slim, raised profile helps smaller rooms feel lighter and more open
  • Boxy arms add comfort without wasting valuable width
  • Tool-free assembly and a versatile design make it especially practical for modern homes

Things to consider

The structured foam seat is better suited to people who prefer support than a feather-soft sink-in feel.

Compact does not mean tiny: mark out the exact footprint in your room before buying.

Best Family Sofa 2026: Sofa.com Long Island 3 Seat Sofa — 23/25

  • Comfort: deep, feather-wrapped cushions with a relaxed, inviting sit
  • Standout practical details: 5/5 durability and family-friendly fabric scores, a slim version within the range and a lifetime frame guarantee

How it scored

Judging criterionScore
Durability5/5
Family-Friendly Fabrics5/5
Ease of Maintenance4/5
Comfort5/5
Flexibility4/5
Total23/25

Why it won

The Long Island won our updated Best Family Sofa award with 23/25 because it combines superior quality with the kind of everyday practicality a busy home needs. Its super-relaxed shape creates a warm, welcoming feel, while the deep, feather-wrapped cushions provide the sort of comfort that works just as well for family film nights as it does for a lazy Sunday afternoon.

It achieved 5/5 for durability, family-friendly fabrics and comfort, and our designers felt the range also offers useful flexibility for real homes. A slimmer version is available for smaller spaces, there is a strong choice of family-friendly fabrics, and the lifetime frame guarantee adds reassurance for a sofa expected to be used heavily for years.

What our designers noticed

What our designers liked most was that the Long Island still feels design-led despite its family-first credentials. In a classic linen it can lean into a relaxed modern-country look; in a richer velvet it becomes more luxurious. Either way, the overall shape stays inviting, timeless and easy to live with.

“It is the perfect statement sofa for a home that is designed to be lived in: generous, comfortable and versatile enough to keep looking good as family life and your style evolve.” — My Bespoke Room design team

What we love

  • 23/25 overall, with 5/5 for durability, family-friendly fabrics and comfort
  • Deep, feather-wrapped cushions make it genuinely inviting for everyday family life
  • Family-friendly fabric choice, a slim version and a lifetime frame guarantee add useful flexibility
  • Timeless relaxed shape works across both casual and more luxurious schemes

Things to consider

Ease of maintenance and flexibility both scored 4/5 rather than full marks, so check the exact fabric and configuration against the way your family lives.

At £3,176 when assessed, the Long Island is a more premium family-sofa investment than several of the shortlisted alternatives.

How to choose a sofa: 5 things our interior designers check

1. Get the size and proportions right

Measure the room and mark the sofa footprint on the floor before you buy. Look beyond overall width: arm thickness, seat depth, back height and leg height all affect how much usable seating you get and how visually heavy the sofa feels. In a smaller room, slim arms and raised legs can make a meaningful difference. Leave a comfortable route through the room and check how the sofa will relate to your rug, coffee table, side tables and TV or focal point.

2. Measure the full delivery route

A sofa can fit the living room perfectly and still fail to make it through the front door. Measure doorways, hallways, staircases, landings, lifts and tight corners, then compare them with the packaged dimensions. Breakdownable, modular or sofa-in-a-box designs can be extremely useful where access is awkward.

3. Choose comfort for the way you actually sit

Comfort is personal. Deep seats are brilliant for curling up but can feel less supportive for shorter sitters; a shallower, higher seat is often easier for upright sitting. Check seat depth, seat height, back support, cushion firmness and how easy the sofa is to get in and out of. Where possible, sit on the sofa before ordering.

4. Match the fabric and filling to real life

For busy homes, consider stain resistance, removable or washable covers, pilling, snagging and the manufacturer’s care instructions — not just colour. Cushion filling matters too: foam usually holds its shape with less maintenance, feather gives a softer sink-in feel, and combination cushions can offer a useful balance of support and softness. Always request fabric samples where possible.

5. Check construction, guarantees and aftercare

Look for clear information about the frame, cushion construction, guarantees, replacement covers or cushion interiors, delivery terms and returns. A longer guarantee can be reassuring, but check exactly what it covers. Many sofas are made to order, so cancellation and return rights may differ from an off-the-shelf purchase.
