Laura’s Mother’s Day Letter

Hi everyone,
With Mother’s Day around the corner, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on how My Bespoke Room began and what this day means to me, and to so many of us in the MBR community.
When I bought and started renovating my first home, I was excited to make it my own. However, finding the help I needed to transform the space into something homely and wow-worthy was much harder and more overwhelming than I expected. I was struck by how inaccessible and costly the interior design industry was, and so I turned to Pinterest (as many of us do!) for inspiration, but found myself getting frustrated when I couldn’t track down any of the beautiful pieces I saw.

I started to wonder, why isn’t there a more affordable, approachable way to get practical and professional advice to design a home you love? After all, it is often our biggest asset and where we spend the most time.
And with a background in product design engineering, my mind began to race with the possibility of making interior design affordable, less intimidating and accessible for everyone. That’s where My Bespoke Room first came about! I began building the business while I was on maternity leave, juggling a newborn and a start-up at the same time. It was a whirlwind (and still is!), but it gave me a huge appreciation for how much mums juggle every single day.

Over the years, we’ve grown into something I’m really proud of, not just a service that makes home design easier and more affordable, but also a team that supports each other. Many of our team members and designers are mothers, and we’ve always made flexible working a priority. Being able to offer work that fits around family life has become a core part of who we are.
