The brief

Create a calm, timeless living room with subtle Studio McGee and country-inspired influences.
Use earthy tones, natural textures and mixed woods to complement the age of the property.
Introduce black accents to add definition and contrast throughout the room.
Incorporate practical TV storage, shelving and a dedicated desk area without overcrowding the space.
Work around the clients' existing artwork and allow flexibility for displaying personal pieces.
Add full-height curtains and layered furnishings to make the room feel warmer, taller and more cohesive.

The result

The scheme combines warm taupe walls with rust, earthy neutrals and small touches of inky blue, layered through faded rugs, textured curtains, and soft furnishings. Darker wood furniture, rattan-fronted storage and black-framed pieces add contrast, while the new log burner gives the fireplace area a stronger focal point.

Practicality is built into the layout through a TV unit in the alcove, freestanding shelving, a desk area and flexible storage ottomans that double as extra seating. Full-height curtains run from ceiling to floor to visually increase the room's height, while a bay-window bench, rocking chair, plants and personal artwork keep the finished space relaxed and characterful.
